Spring Car Maintenance Tips from MAIF Insurance

Follow these tips to maintain your car for rainy, warmer weather:

Check Your Wipers

Dirt, leaves, and other debris can collect on the wipers over time. Make sure that your wipers are clean, and replace your windshield wipers if they create streaks. You can clean your windshield wipers with warm, soapy water and wipe the edge of the blade with rubbing alcohol. Be careful when you clean your windshield wipers; use a thick cloth to protect your hands.

Replace Air Filters

Make sure that you replace dirty air filters. Pollen, dirt, and other debris that cause allergies can get caught in air filters. Check your air filters and find a replacement to ensure that the air in your vehicle’s cabin is clean.

Check Your Tire Pressure

Changes in temperature can impact your tire pressure. Make sure that your tire pressure is equal in all of your tires. Your owner’s manual should have the correct pressure for your vehicle. To check your tire pressure, remove the cap on your tire’s air valve and immediately place a tire gauge on the valve. Once you read the tire pressure, place the cap tightly on the air valve.

Check Your Oil/Car Fluids

The engine can work harder during winter if you drive through ice and snow. Getting an oil change can lubricate the engine parts and ensure that the engine runs smoothly. Additionally, checking coolant, which is a mixture of antifreeze and water, can prevent the engine from overheating.

Refilling your windshield wiper fluid can make sure that your windshield stays clean. You can refill your windshield wiper fluid by opening the hood of the car and finding the washer fluid reservoir. This reservoir is typically a translucent container with a label. Fill the wiper fluid to the marker.

Clean Your Car

Refreshing your car’s interior and exterior is a part of spring cleaning! Vacuum the inside of your car, removing floor mats and liners. Clean all of your windows to remove dirt and pollen to make sure you can see through your windows when you drive.
