Navigating Holiday Traffic

Holiday Travel/Roadway InsuranceThanksgiving is quickly approaching. In the Baltimore and Washington Metro Area, this means the season of traffic jams. The Thanksgiving holiday is one of the most heavily travelled weekends of the year. On top of all the anxious and stressed out holiday drivers, weather can also be unpredictable this time of year. Roadway wants everyone to stay safe and accident free with these holiday driving tips.

Avoid Peak Driving Times
The Wednesday before Thanksgiving can be the busiest travel day of the year on American highways. Try to plan your trip on the Monday or Tuesday before Thanksgiving if possible. Traffic will be significantly lighter these days.

Make sure you leave plenty of time to get where you are going. If you leave early a little traffic will not cause the extra stress of being late to your event.

Stay Calm

Stay alert and calm while driving. Do not be distracted by cell phones or cranky passengers. Paying attention can save lives and keep the roads safe during the holiday season. Getting aggravated can lead to accidents and dangerous driving conditions.

Give Space
Incase of inclement weather make sure you leave plenty of space between you and the vehicles around you. Two car lengths is the recommended space to be able to stop in a timely manner. Braking abruptly can cause accidents, make sure you are prepared to stop slowly at a safe distance.

Drive Sober
Never drive if you have had alcohol. Plan for a sober driver, or spend the night with your friends or family. Driving intoxicated is never worth the risk.

No matter how careful of a driver you are, accidents happen. Make sure your car is properly insured before heading out to enjoy time with friends and family this holiday season.
