As of November 4, 2013, undocumented workers in the state of Maryland can now begin the process of obtaining a limited use driver’s license. This also includes residents of Maryland who do not have a legally acceptable birth certificate. Also called a Federally Non-Compliant driver’s license, this license cannot be used to vote and is not accepted by the TSA for airline travel.
To begin this process, eligible residents must contact the Motor Vehicle Administration to schedule an appointment- walk ins will not be accepted for this type of driver’s license. Licenses will be valid as of January 1st, 2014. Applicants will be required to pass both written and driving tests before being issued a limited license in Maryland.
Once a license has been obtained, drivers must then be insured with a state registered insurance company. Roadway Insurance offers some of the most competitive rates for car insurance and is one of the largest providers of MAIF insurance policies in the metro area.
